VoKAB proudly hosted its 4th political forum since 2022, " 2025 Do You Know Australian Politics?" The federal election event took place on Friday, March 28th, shortly after the announcement of the upcoming federal election on May 3rd.
Approximately 150 Korean-Australian and multicultural community voters attended, actively engaging with four prominent candidates: sitting Labor MPs Sally Sitou MP (Reid), Dr Andrew Charlton MP (Parramatta), and Andrew Charlton MP (Bennelong), along with informal participation by Ben Speechly, Greens candidate for Mitchell. Unfortunately, Liberal Party candidates withdrew at short notice for various reasons, highlighting growing political polarization. Despite this, the event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees across the political spectrum, including both undecided voters and supporters of major parties.
VoKAB (Voice of Korean-Australian Businesses) organised this forum to deepen political awareness and encourage community engagement before the federal election. VoKAB actively advocates for Korean Australians, amplifying their voices across political, cultural, and economic sectors and fostering broader multicultural connections.
Given today's unpredictable global environment, federal representatives must address immediate domestic challenges such as cost-of-living pressures, housing affordability, infrastructure…etc, and simultaneously plan strategically for Australia's long-term prosperity. Candidates must navigate complex issues, including resource diversification, resilient supply chains, strategic geopolitical alliances, rapidly advancing technologies, and their associated benefits and risks.
Voters understand candidates cannot have exhaustive knowledge on all issues. However, they expect their representatives to possess a foundational understanding of domestic and international affairs, strategic foresight, and sincere dedication to serving all Australians. Clearly, articulated visions are crucial for voters to assess how representatives will foster individual and national prosperity.
The forum also featured vibrant cultural performances by internationally acclaimed artists: traditional Korean drumming (Samgomu) by Jeonghee Jang and vocal performances by tenor Jaewoo Kim, symbolizing multicultural harmony. A highly interactive Q&A allowed direct engagement between candidates and voters on practical community concerns.
The Korean-Australian and broader multicultural vote may be decisive, with polls indicating a tightly contested election. VoKAB is proud to note increased political awareness and engagement within the Korean-Australian community, particularly among younger generations, since the initiation of this forum series.
VoKAB remains dedicated to fostering inclusive platforms, welcoming participation from all multicultural groups, and encouraging informed democratic participation and harmonious coexistence across Australia.

3월 28일 금요일 VoKAB은 2022년 이래 네 번째 마련한 정치 포럼인 "Do You Know Australian Politics, 2025?"를 성공적으로 개최했습니다. 이 포럼은 오는 5월 3일 예정된 연방 총선 발표 직후인 3월 28일 금요일에 진행되었으며, 약 150여 명의 한인 및 다문화 유권자들과 함께했습니다. 특히 현역 연방 노동당 의원인 Sally Sitou(Reid 지역구), Andrew Charlton 의원(Parramatta 지역구), Jerome Laxale 의원(Bennelong 지역구)이 참석하여 직접 유권자들과 소통했습니다. 아쉽게도 참석이 확정되었던 자유당 후보들이 불참하여 정치적 양극화에 대한 우려를 낳았지만, 미첼(Mitchell) 지역의 녹색당 후보 Ben Speechly가 비공식적으로 참석해 진정성 있는 소통으로 큰 호응을 얻었습니다.
VoKAB(호주 한인 비즈니스인의 목소리)는 연방 선거를 앞두고 한인사회의 정치적 이해와 적극적인 참여를 증진하기 위해 이 포럼을 마련했습니다. VoKAB은 한인들의 목소리를 정치·문화·경제 분야에 전달하는 한편, 호주 내 다양한 다문화 커뮤니티 간의 소통을 위해 노력하고 있습니다.
